Product Description

250ml Clear Electrical Insulating Air Drying Varnish

Ideal for electric motor windings, transformer coils, tesla coils, solonoid coils and almost any coil winding application that requires insulating, bonding & sealing. This varnish can also be used as an anti-tracking coat on printed circuit boards and components. Can be applied to windings using a small paint brush or components can be dipped.

General Description…

A reliable & convenient air-drying varnish designed for the electrical industry. Anti-tracking varnish provides a tough, impervious, insulating seal in difficult environments. The system dries rapidly in thin film to give very effective sealing off of electrical leakage paths together with excellent noise reduction characteristics. The cured product conforms to BS 5629 type 1.1 (IEC 464), has excellent resistance to transformer oils and moisture, and is suitable for use in Class B and F insulating systems. A low hazard fungicide is included in the varnished enamels, which gives a 0 rating (no growth) fungal resistance when tested to BS 3900 PTG6.

  1. magnet wire

Posted by Ian Morgan on 24th Jun 2021

I use Brocott magnet wire to wind audio transformers. The quality is very good! Highly recommended!
Have just ordered air drying varnish, not used it as yet but I’m sure it will serve my purposes.

  2. used for armatures on classic cars

Posted by A Turner on 14th Nov 2019

I am a professional rebuilder of wiper-motors for classic cars. I use several products from Brocott.
This varnish I use to stabilise and protect windings, both field coils and armatures. It's easy to apply and works well.
There are two problems I've found.
Once opened the life is quite short, if you store with air in the container. I split the contents into three small jars once I have opened it. I make them really full.
Doing this it keeps well and I can use it all up. You'd be OK if you used more than I do. But a little goes a long way on small motors.
It hardens in air OK on field-coils but armatures have internal recesses and even if left for a few days it tends to spin out when I run them. This makes a sticky mess. So these I oven dry at about 80C for an hour.
    Hopes this helps someone.

    REPLY FROM BROCOTT:
The varnish can also be thinned down slightly with a xylene thinner to maintain the viscosity. Even though it is an air drying varnish, heating of the stator or armature prior or post application will always result in a quicker cure time and a fuller cure.

  3. Excellent varnish

Posted by Skipmeister on 4th Mar 2019

This air-drying varnish is easy to apply using a brush. It soaks in beautifully and dries quickly. Brushes can be washed in white spirit followed by Swarfega and detergent. Good stuff all round!

  4. Winding varnish keeps coil layers together and stable

Posted by Carl on 12th Mar 2018

Perfect product, adds insulation and stability to any number of windings.

  5. Good order
